Easter Retreat in Vjosa

On the weekend of Easter, we organized a retreat in Iliras, Tepelena. The retreat brought together a diverse group of individuals, including many of our contacts who had expressed interest and questions about faith, as well as friends from our apologetics course and believers eager to share their faith. The setting was simply breathtaking! Nestled amidst the wild mountains, with the majestic Vjosa River just a stone’s throw away from the guesthouse, the natural beauty was truly awe-inspiring. and the culinary delights prepared by Kaon’s mom added an extra layer of warmth and hospitality to our gathering.

What made this retreat truly special was the presence of our guests from Denver, Colorado: Bill and Leigh Ann Nicas, along with their daughter Hailey. With approximately 27 attendees from various backgrounds—Catholics, atheists, Orthodox, Muslims, and more—the atmosphere was rich with diversity and openness.

Our sessions kicked off with an exploration of historical evidence for Christianity and the resurrection, followed by deeper discussions in our small groups. Bill then delivered a presentation on the Shroud of Turin and the evidence surrounding it—a topic that sparked considerable curiosity and generated insightful questions. It was especially fascinating to discover that one of the students, who had previously researched the Shroud of Turin for his studies, was among us.

As our sessions drew to a close, we were treated to a short video presentation on “Why Jesus?” and heard inspiring personal testimonies from Bill and Leigh Ann, sharing how God had transformed their lives. The discussions in our small groups were very fruitful, with everyone actively engaging with meaningful questions and seeking deeper understanding.

The remote location proved to be conducive to reflection and introspection, encouraging everyone to go further into their faith journey. And, of course, no Albanian gathering would be complete without some lively dancing after dinner!

As the retreat came to an end, each participant left with the challenge to explore more deeply their faith and to make decisions based on the evidence presented. We appreciate your continued support and prayers for everyone of them.
